“A huge thank you to Stephanie, her husband, her children, Danielle, Danielle’s children, Koller Automotive and Amy for providing the Empower Wheels Car Clinic for the women of Every Good Gift. It was a wonderful and much needed gift to them and to our organization. A car clinic has been on my wish list for many years. I’ve told others about the need, but you all made it happen, and made it even better than I had hoped for. Having mechanics do the work in their own shop expanded the safety checks and work that could be done. Offering car washes by the children was a real plus for women who don’t have driveways where they can wash their cars. You planned in a way only a mom would do – water bottles and juice pouches, pizza and ice cream sandwiches. I am sure all appreciated the food and air fresheners.

Seeing you tell the women you would cover the cost of parts or help with the cost brought tears to my eyes. Your efforts to find a safer car for the last woman who came went way above and beyond. The women are vulnerable to being taken advantage of by unscrupulous mechanics. Now they have had a trustworthy safety inspection, basic maintenance and help with further repairs needed. What a relief it must be for them.

“After a slew of financial hits all around the same time I had depleted my savings. Being on a fixed disability income any major expenses, especially unforseen ones, are a huge a stressor and difficult to navigate. Often times something ends up having to not get paid. In this instance that wasnt an option. The little things could wait but I had to move and the costs of moving, rent, and car insurance all came relatively close. My car is my sole avenue to get to therapy and all my doctor appointments as I have no family nearby. I cannot say thank you enough to Drive and Thrive! Without this help I wouldn’t have been able to pay for an inspection or the couple things that needed to be done. Often times people don’t realize how much a car can impact someone. With out it, especially in an area without public transport would mean no way to get groceries, get to the laundromat, appointments, jobs, etc. Gas and insurance alone are an investment that takes a toll when on a fixed income yet is also necessary. Thank you for what you do. I hope others realize the impact this resource can be and more support and resources like this are created. I know the need is great.”

We were in women’s shelter for some time, and I am currently still on medical leave with no income. My car is essential to transport my daughters and myself to all our doctor’s appointments, as well as to and from school. My kids and car are the only things I had left. God only knows how truly blessed and grateful I am for Drive and Thrive. Their program is extremely helpful, and the staff made me feel less ashamed of needing help.
